Course Overview

Comprehensive tuition is given prior to commencement of any flight training with a minimum of 30 hours in the FNTP II simulator. Once a good understanding is demonstrated of all relevant procedures, you will progress on to your chosen aircraft where you will have an opportunity to fly the routes you may face during your IR Skill Test.

Instrument Rating (IR) Multi-Engine

55 Hour IR course

55 hours which includes 35 hours in the FNPT2 simulator and 20 hours in the BE76 Duchess aircraft. The course will take 8 weeks (weather depending) and will cover use of GPS, VOR/ILS and ADF for tracking, holding and approaches.

45 Hour IR course

45 hours which include 30 hours in the FNPT2 simulator and 15 hours in the BE76 Duchess aircraft. The course will take 6 weeks (weather depending) and will cover use of GPS, VOR/ILS and ADF for tracking, holding and approaches.

Please note: you must hold a CPL(A) in order to qualify for the 45 hour course.

Instrument Rating (IR) Single-Engine

50 Hour IR course

50 hours which includes 30 hours in the FNPT2 simulator and 20 hours in the PA28R. The course will take 6 weeks (weather depending) and will cover use of GPS, VOR/ILS and ADF for tracking, holding and approaches.

Course Pre-requisites

The following requirements are assumed to have been met at commencement of training:

  • PPL with at least 50 hours of cross-country flying as P1
  • Current Night Rating
  • Relevant ATPL Examinations passed
  • Class 1 Medical
  • Your CPL issued prior to commencing your IR training for the 45 hour course
